This site will help make you a better cook, an adept gardener, and good-looking. Also, I'm not from or in Tuscany, and I'm a man.
When I can figure out how to get a list of the other posts in this category here, it will be. For now, just some pictures. =)
Well, the cook-off was a success and a failure. First, the failure. I like to deal with it and get it out of the way. I didn’t place. That’s okay though, because that says to me the judges were looking for something other than what I made. I stuck closer to a true chili than the winners, and I also made something with a bit more liquid. At home we usually eat chili with a fresh pan of cornbread, so I like to have some mopping liquid. The winning chilis are used shredded beef, which is a no-no in my mind, and they were the consistency of thick ketchup. Since that seems unappealing to me, I am able to rationalize the loss more easily. =)
Now to the success, the hot sauce. J and I had numerous requests for the recipe and lots of accolades. It was hot, but really flavorful, and people loved it. I make a lot more hot sauce and salsa than chili, so I enjoyed the attention paid it.
I’ve been reading Julia and Jacques; Cooking at Home the last couple nights, and so we had some tasty Baked Potatoes for dinner last night. The Princess loved the inside, but wouldn’t try the skins. Next time, next time.

Too bad about the chili. Unfortunately, with competetions, its kind of like an artist that goes from painting for fun to painting for a living. Where they once did things the way they wanted and pleased them, now they have to think about what will sell, or what pleases their clients. I think cooking competetions must be the same way.

True, but I do have to admit I’m totally obsessing about winning next year! =)
