Baked Goods

killer pecan sticky buns

Wednesday night, J told me that she needed me to make some breakfast goodies for her to take to work this ( Friday ) morning. I decided to take this opportunity to make some tasty baked treats. Earlier this week I had made a batch of blueberry muffins from The Best Recipe, but despite their moist spongy interior, the flavor was fairly bland, and I didn’t agree that this was the Best Recipe for blueberry muffins. For this morning, I chose to try the recipe from The Foster’s Market Cookbook.

The muffins came out very blueberry-ey and the cake had a nice taste to it. They also were easier to make, not requiring the use of the mixer to cream together the butter and sugar, instead mixing sugar and melted butter together. Nice.

I also decided to make the Killer Pecan Sticky Buns, also from the same cookbook. These require a yeast Refrigerator Roll recipe to be made first, so I made that yesterday afternoon. Too bad I had the patio door open because it cooled the kitchen off so much that it took the dough almost 2 hours to rise instead of 20 minutes. Oh well. I left the portion of dough in the fridge overnight.

This morning, bright and early, I got up and took the dough out, plumped the raisins, made my sugar mixes and baked the buns. The only downside was the fact that my dish started over-flowing buttery, sugar and honey mix into the oven. This created a lot of smoke, and required a good airing out of the kitchen with 55 degree foggy air from outside. The upside was that after 50 minutes in the oven these things looked amazing. huge, puffy, nicely browned. I took them out, flipped them onto a plate, and tasted. I think I’ll be making these again this weekend.

So I sent J off to work with about a dozen muffins, and a dozen sticky buns. Hopefully they’re a hit at the office. We’ll find out soon enough!

Thanks! They definitely looked as good as I’d hoped. I just bought the new iLife 06, so hopefully look for more picture integration into the posts. =)
